About Jay McIlveen
Jay McIlveen’s passion for real estate began in 2002 as a side hustle while working in corporate America, eventually growing into a full-time commitment to property investment and remodeling in 2020. After the 2008 market shift, he made a pivotal decision to focus on Section 8 partnerships, recognizing that consistent payments provided the financial flexibility to truly assist people. Since then, his firm, Five Star Properties, has purchased, rehabbed, and sold or rented over 40 single-family homes, demonstrating a deep commitment to the sector.
McIlveen focuses on 'salvageable' structures that have become neighborhood blight, renovating them far beyond basic code to create affordable homes that are a source of pride for the residents. This approach fosters stability, with most tenants staying for at least five years, which helps turn struggling areas into true communities. Jay's success and commitment to the area led to his selection for the second cohort of the Community Developers Roundtable (CDR), an affiliation he uses to navigate complex housing regulations and identify key partner organizations.
